Our History

Bridge of Hope Childrens’ Center (BHCC) is a Kenyan charitable children’s institution registered with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection with registration number NCSS (0086). The center is located in Gilgil Town, Kenya along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

BHCC was started by Pastor Honey Munyiri and his wife Virginia Njoki in the year 2003.

Pastor Munyiri narrates the Center’s story as follows.

“We were alarmed by the many cases of child abuse and neglect in our village known as Kampi Somali village in the outskirts of Gilgil town. The village is a low-income area having high prevalence of alcoholism and other drug-related problems. We were particularly touched by small children left to fend for themselves by their alcoholic parents. Others had been orphaned or abandoned by their parents who had gone to search for greener pastures in bigger cities like Nairobi.

Deeply touched by the plight of the destitute children of Kampi Somali, we started a feeding programme and later begun requesting for assistance from well wishers. We were able by the grace of God to construct two semipermanent dormitories; one for boys and another for girls with a capacity of 40 occupants each.

In the year 2007, we invited the first batch of children to board at our center. Most of them have gone on to become successful adults and we continue to receive and take care of children at BHCC.”
